§ 38. Mr. Alfred Morrisasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government when he will announce his policy regarding the making of smoke control areas mandatory upon urban authorities in the North-West Region and his policy regarding other forms of pollution; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. GreenwoodPollution of the environment has been and is being substantially reduced, in spite of the growth of the population and of industry. The Clean Air Bill—at present under consideration in another place—will, if passed, give me power to require a local authority to make smoke control orders. When, and to what extent, this power would be used must depend on, among other things, the economic situation.
