§ Mr. Edward ShortThe numbers were 290,000, 332,000, 387,000 and 422,000 in January, 1946, 1951, 1964 and December, 1967 respectively, including in each case about 23.000 sub-postmasters who are employed on an agency basis.
Since 1946 about 6¼ million new dwellings have been constructed; the correspondence posted has increased by 55 per cent., local telephone calls by 160 per cent., and trunk calls by 350 per cent.
