§ Mr. J. H. Osbornasked the President of the Board of Trade if he will list those inducements which he has now offered to encourage industries to smelt aluminium in development areas in the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. Darling:Apart from the assistance available to firms wishing to undertake manufacture in Development Areas, the Government have indicated their readiness to authorise supply of electricity under the long-term contract arrangements announced on 4th October, 1967, and to consider participation in the financing of smelter projects.
§ Mr. J. H. Osbornasked the President of the Board of Trade on what basis he is prepared to join in the financing of the development of aluminium smelting in this country.
§ Mr. Darling:The interested aluminium companies were informed that the Government are ready to consider proposals for a Government loan on appropriate terms, or alternatively proposals for Government equity participation.
