HC Deb 17 January 1968 vol 756 cc563-4W
Mr. Bryant Godman Irvine

asked the Minister of Transport what progress has been made in her consideration of the proposed by-pass relief road at Rye.

Mr. Carmichael:

Agreement in principle on the main road framework for the Town Map has been reached between the Divisional Road Engineer and officers of the East Sussex County Council. It makes provision for a relief road north of the town centre, but the proposals as a whole have yet to be formally considered by the County Council.

At this stage it is not considered that an outer by-pass can be justified for the near future, but it is accepted that this question should be reconsidered in future reviews of the Town Map.
