Mr. George Jegerasked the Minister of Power whether he will initiate further talks with the National Coal Board on the proposed closure of Thorne Colliery, in view of the social and economic local consequences and the considerable capital expenditure in making the pit workable during the past 10 years.
§ Mr. FreesonNo. The National Coal Board have decided that heavy expenditure would be involved in re-opening the pit which ceased production in 1956, and that foreseeable demands for coal can be met from other pits working in the area.
