§ Mr. Roebuckasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government by what amount he estimates that Harrow ratepayers have benefited by legislation and orders made by him since October, 1964; and whether he will give details.
§ Mr. SkeffingtonThe share of the London Borough Council of Harrow in the General Grants for 1965–66 and 1966–67, fixed by Order under the Local Government Act 1958, is estimated at £2,584,435 and £2,828,856 respectively. The estimated Rate Support Grant for 1967–68 under the Local Government Act, 1966 amounts to £4,234,877, comprising the needs element of £4,072,355 and the domestic element of £162,522. The domestic element has enabled the rate poundage paid by householders to be reduced by 5d. Total grants in respect of rate rebates are expected to be about £112,000 up to the end of 1967–68. It is too early to assess benefit from specific grants under the Local Government Act, 1966.
