HC Deb 22 February 1968 vol 759 cc165-6W
Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how much was spent by his Department on research during the last financial year in Wales and England, respectively.

Mr. Gordon Walker

The greater part of the expenditure on research met on my Department's Votes lies with the Research Councils through their grants in aid and with the Natural History Museum. In 1966–67 they spent approximately £46 million in England and £1½ million in Wales.

Direct expenditure by the Department on education and information and documentation research amounted to £618,000 in England and £5,000 in Wales.
