Mr. Edward M. Taylorasked the Minister of Transport whether she will appoint a committee to investigate the whole question of rail safety.
§ Mr. John MorrisNo. As I explained to the hon. Member in my letter of the 26th January, the responsibility for the safety of operation of the railways rests with the Railways Board. We are, however, satisfied that the Board are fully alive to their responsibilities and that a wide-ranging inquiry of the kind suggested would not be justified even if my right hon. Friend had the power to order one.
