§ 69. Mr. Arnold Shawasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government, whether he will refer to the National Board for Prices and Incomes the heavy surcharge placed on houses in the course of construction by the Rose Valley Properties Limited, Upminster, immediately following the announcement of devaluation.
§ Mr. MacCollNo. The Government look to builders and developers to hold down new house prices and to absorb extra costs as far as possible; but because of the wide variety of types, standards and sites and because new houses are sold against competition from a much larger second-hand housing market, my right hon. Friend does not consider that a reference to the National Board for Prices and Incomes would be appropriate.
