§ Mr. Cantasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will relax the conditions under which charities can remit funds to Rhodesia; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Harold LeverI have reviewed these rules in the light of developments since they were introduced in January, 1966. In future charitable, religious, medical and educational organisations in this country will be allowed to make current remittances to Rhodesia in quarterly instalments up to the amount of sterling remitted in 1965, instead of 75 per cent. of that amount. Consideration will also be given to applications to make capital remittances to Rhodesia for educational purposes, as well as for medical purposes as hitherto. Specific application must be made to the Bank of England in each case. Remittances authorised will be in sterling to Rhodesian account.
