asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he is aware of the increase in water charges now being levied in the Halesworth, Beccles and Southwold areas; whether these charges have his approval; and what action he plans to take regarding them.

Mr. Greenwood

I am aware of the increases. The charges do not require my approval.

Statutory water undertakers are expected to have regard to the criteria for price behaviour set out in the White Paper on Prices and Incomes Policy after 30th June, 1967 (Cmnd. 3235).
