§ Sir T, Beamish
asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what he estimates to be the number of young people under the age of 19 working with voluntary services overseas; what is his estimate of the approximate annual cost of allowing their parents to continue to draw family allowances until their 19th 412W birthday; and if he will propose the necessary amendments to the Family Allowances Act to make this possible.
§ Mr. Swingler:
About 300 volunteers under 19 are now working for the society called Voluntary Service Overseas. I do not consider that the suggested amendment would be justified. The cost would depend on how many of the parents were, as a result, entitled to draw family allowances.
