HC Deb 24 April 1968 vol 763 c64W
Mr. Jennings

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works what safeguards he proposes, to protect this nation's heritage of historic buildings and monuments from purchase and exploitation by foreign interests.

Mr. MacDermot

I have been asked to reply.

Safeguards already exist, in that historic buildings and ancient monuments can be statutorily listed under the Town and Country Planning Act, 1962 or the Ancient Monuments Acts. Notice must be given of proposals to demolish or alter them, and the local planning authority or the Government have power to intervene to prevent the work.
