HC Deb 03 April 1968 vol 762 cc116-7W
Mr. John Fraser

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what progress is being made in compiling lists of buildings under Section 32 of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1962.

Mr. MacDermot

Statutory lists have been issued for 1,277 of the 1,308 local authority areas in England. Most, if not all, of the remaining 31 lists are expected to be issued during 1968.

Many areas are also currently being re-surveyed to add buildings of the Victorian and Edwardian periods to the lists. This follows the review of the principles of listing in 1959, by the Advisory Committee on Buildings of Architectural or Historic Interest.

The task of general re-survey to identify those of the Grade III buildings which should now be added to the statutory lists is bound to take a number of years, but arrangements have been made to increase the number of Investigators to deal with it.
