HC Deb 03 April 1968 vol 762 c106W
Mr. Dobson

asked the Minister of Transport (1) what studies are at present being carried out towards seeking a site or sites for a large industrial complex south of Bristol;

(2) what decision she has taken on the proposal, called Maritime Industrial Development Areas Study, to locate a large industrial complex between Avonmouth and Weston-super-Mare.

Mr. Swingler

The Government Departments concerned and the National Ports Council are undertaking a preliminary study of the possibility of developing one or more maritime industrial areas in the United Kingdom. They have commissioned engineering consultants to identify suitable sites, and have asked them to go into greater detail in respect of three areas which meet the basic requirements and three others (including the Portbury Flats) which do not, but which deserve further consideration. The Government will then decide whether or not to undertake a full economic and technical study of one or more of these sites.
