HC Deb 03 April 1968 vol 762 c85W
Sir J. Langford-Holt

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will make a statement on the fresh outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Shropshire.

Mr. Peart

An outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease was confirmed among sheep near Shawbury on 29th March. The flock, 892 sheep and also 106 pigs were destroyed.

The virus was type O, but the subtype h is not yet been established.

There had been no case of disease within five miles during the last 10 weeks. The origin of the outbreak has not been established but enquiries are proceeding. There is no evidence of any kind to implicate the nearby R.A.F. Camp.
