§ Viscount Lambtonasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs (1) whether plans have now been made to call an independence conference on the future of British Honduras;
(2) whether it is the intention of Her Majesty's Government to announce this year a date on which it is proposed to grant independence to the Crown Colony of British Honduras.
§ Mr. George ThomasAs my hon. Friend the then Under-Secretary of State 113W for the Colonies, told the House in August, 1966—[Vol. 733 c. 2056]—we are ready to consider any proposals which may be put forward for the independence of British Honduras. Until proposals are put forward it is not possible to make plans for a Constitutional Conference, and it would be for that Conference to consider arrangements for the Country's independence.
