HC Deb 02 April 1968 vol 762 cc60-1W
Mr. Leadbitter

asked the Minister of Power what site preparation work at Seaton Carew is being carried out by the Central Electricity Generating Board with a view to constructing a nuclear power station, in view of his assurance that he has not yet completed his study of the relative merits of a coal-fired or a nuclear station.

Mr. Marsh

As I have already said in answer to my hon. Friend on 17th January [Vol. 756, c. 620], the degree of preparation of sites in advance of my decision is a matter for the C.E.G.B.'s commercial judgment. The preparatory work at Seaton Carew will make the site equally suitable for any sort of power station or industrial development and will in no way prejudice my decision whether to allow a nuclear power station to be built there. The Board have had this site for over 10 years.
