HC Deb 23 October 1967 vol 751 c356W
Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister of Labour how many people in the London Borough of Hillingdon are employed in engineering now; and how this compares with the comparable month of each year from 1960 to 1966.

Mr. Fernyhough

The information requested is available only for the Greater London Area as a whole, and is as follows:

ESTIMATED NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES (EMPLOYED AND UNEMPLOYED) IN ORDERS VI TO IX OF THE STANDARD INDUSTRIAL CLASSIFICATION
(Thousands)
Males Females Total
June, 1960 515 196 711
June, 1961 524 201 726
June, 1962 523 196 718
June, 1963 517 193 709
June, 1964 497 191 688
June, 1965 464 183 648
June, 1966 453 183 636

Due to boundary changes arising out of the establishment of the Greater London Council, the estimates for years up to 1964 are not strictly comparable with those for subsequent years.

Owing to roundings, the components do not necessarily add to the totals.
