HC Deb 30 November 1967 vol 755 cc182-3W
Mr. Hooson

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will provide for a major north-south road in Wales and a major east-west road in mid-Wales during the coming year so as to relieve unemployment in Wales and provide an adequate basis for communication within the Principality.

Mr. Cledwyn Hughes

My plans for improving trunk roads in central Wales are described in paragraphs 54, 55 and 371 of "Wales: The Way Ahead". I shall continue to give priority during the coming year and thereafter to the Brecon-Llangurig and Haverfordwest-Bangor roads as well as to the Aberystwyth-Shrewsbury road.

I am undertaking over £½ million worth of additional road improvements and maintenance work in Mid-Wales this winter which will help to relieve unemployment.
