§ Mr. RossThe numbers of sentenced prisoners admitted to Scottish prisons in 1951, 1956 and 1961 were 8,597, 9,453 and 12,379. In 1966 the number was 11,963: in that year, however, persons under 21 could no longer be sent to prison, and young offenders institutions received 1,887 inmates. For the first nine months of 1967, the figures are 10,529 admitted to prison and 1,603 to young offenders institutions.
