HC Deb 15 November 1967 vol 754 cc119-20W
70. Sir Clive Bossom

asked the Minister of Transport what is her present policy in regard to the widths of central reservations and the provision of crash barriers and anti-dazzle barriers on motorways.

Mr. Carmichael

Our policy has always been to provide central reservations 13 ft wide in normal rural conditions. My right hon. Friend is considering the recommendations about safety fences on motorways contained in the twelfth report from the Estimates Committee and she hopes to make a statement shortly. A before and after assessment of an experiment with an anti-dazzle fence on a two mile stretch of the M1 near Luton is being made.
