HC Deb 15 November 1967 vol 754 cc126-7W
97. Mr. James Davidson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is now the estimated cost of a road linking Deeside and Speyside by way of Glenfeshie Forest.

Mr. Ross

At current prices, probably not less than £2¼ million, but no firm estimate could be made without detailed technical investigation.

98. Mr. James Davidson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will approve the construction of a road linking Deeside and Speyside by way of Glenfeshie Forest to be financed jointly by the county councils concerned and by a Government loan repayable by means of a road-toll.

Mr. Ross

No. Present Government policy is that tolls are appropriate only to finance expensive new river crossings which provide exceptional savings in time and distance.
