HC Deb 09 November 1967 vol 753 c178W
Mr. Hooson

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food which of the recommendations made in the Merthyr Report on Hedgerow and Farm Timber 1955 he intends to implement; and when they will be implemented.

Mr. John Mackie

Many of the recommendations in the Merthyr Report were merely injunctions on the planting and preservation of hedgerow trees addressed to various sections of the community. Others have been overtaken by events. However, my right hon. Friend the Minister of Housing and Local Government has recently drawn the attention of the chairmen of the statutory bodies concerned to those recommendations still outstanding, and, in consultation with other Ministers concerned, he is considering whether anything more should be done.
