§ Mr. Bishopasked the Minister of Technology what negotiations have taken place for the purchase of the Harrier vertical take-off and landing aircraft; and whether firm orders have yet been placed for their supply for use by British forces.
§ Mr. StonehouseNegotiations are proceeding with Hawker Siddeley Aviation Ltd. and Bristol Siddeley Engines Ltd. on incentive contracts for development and supply of the Harrier, and I hope they will soon be brought to a successful conclusion. The Government is determined to achieve agreement on prices which promise a fair reward whilst avoiding any risk of excessive profits. In the meantime both firms have been given the necessary authority to proceed with the development and production programmes so that the in-service date of the aircraft will not be prejudiced.
