HC Deb 02 November 1967 vol 753 c11W
Mr. Maclennan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement about Government assistance to the National Gallery of Scotland towards the recent purchase of a painting by Raeburn.

Mr. Ross

Yes. My right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer has agreed that Parliament should be invited to approve a special purchase grant of £10,000 towards the purchase of a portrait of Sir John Sinclair of Ulbster painted by Raeburn. A Supplementary Estimate will be laid before Parliament in due course; meanwhile the money will be advanced from the Civil Contingencies Fund.
