HC Deb 04 May 1967 vol 746 c105W
51. Mr. Hamling

asked the Lord President of the Council what further proposals the Government will take to provide opportunities for back benchers to examine the actions and policies of the Executive; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Crossman

As I said in the House on 19th April, I see the House's rôle as an "assembly of bipartisan inquirers and controllers of the Executive" as an essential function of Parliament, and one which is likely to grow in importance. I will certainly keep this aspect in mind when considering proposals for further procedural changes.
