HC Deb 04 May 1967 vol 746 c114W
Mr. Roebuck

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs what are his proposals for the official celebration of Comonwealth Day in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Bowden

The Joint Commonwealth Societies' Council has assumed the major responsibility for the arrangements for the celebration of Commonwealth Day in the United Kingdom. This year the Council will organise an evening reception at Marlborough House which Their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Kent. will attend. All Commonwealth High Commissioners have been invited as guests.

Her Majesty The Queen's Commonwealth Day message will be distributed widely by the Council, including education authorities, youth organisations and schools.

The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have asked that on the Sunday following Commonwealth Day there will be intercessions for the Commonwealth in all the parishes of the Church of England.
