§ Mr. Elystan Morganasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what guidance or directive his Department has given to local education authorities upon the question of the appointment of female married teachers in preference to unmarried female teachers.
§ Mr. CroslandI have repeatedly emphasised to education authorities the importance of employing as many married women teachers as possible, in order to increase the supply of teachers and reduce the number of oversize classes. Authorities which by employing married women can reduce their demands on the available stock of mobile teachers are giving valuable help to areas with a grave shortage of teachers.
