§ 52. Mr. Randallasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will prohibit the import of packets of chewing gum, an example of which has been sent to him, which also contain horror picture cards 235W depicting bloody scenes alleged to have taken place during the American civil war and which on the reverse side of the card give a mock newspaper article setting out detailed descriptions of the alleged killings and events.
§ Mr. MacDermotThe importation of indecent or obscene articles is prohibited. Very similar cards to these were tested last September in a prosecution under the Obscene Publications Act, 1959. The magistrates ruled that the cards were not obscene and dismissed the case.
