§ 46. Mr. Costainasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many cases of incorrect taxation assessments have been referred to his Department by Members of Parliament within the last twelve months.
§ Mr. DiamondTreasury Ministers receive a substantial number of letters from Members of Parliament seeking explanation of, and commenting on, their constituents' taxation affairs. It would involve unjustifiable expenditure to make a special examination of those received in a particular period to see how many related to incorrect tax assessments and whether the cause in each case lay with the taxpayer or the Inland Revenue.
