Osborneasked the Minister of Technology what progress has been made with his proposal last January that British Motor Holdings and the Leyland Motor Company should merge in order to increase their competitive position in the export markets; and why no action has been taken in the intervening five months.
§ Mr. BennNo such proposal was made by me. In my statement to the House on 17th January I said that there would be discussions with the British-controlled motor manufacturing firms on the possibility of close co-ordination and co-operation between them in their efforts overseas. I have nothing further to add to that statement.
