HC Deb 28 July 1967 vol 751 c283W
Mr. Kelley

asked the Minister of Power (1) what were the original estimates of the reserves of natural gas available to the boreholes which have been operating near Whitby in Yorkshire; how much has been extracted up to the nearest convenient date; and what reserves remain;

(2) for how many years was it forecast that natural gas would be available to the boreholes near Whitby in Yorkshire; to what extent has this forecast been revised; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Marsh

Owing to the nature of the strata in which the gas was found, no firm estimates of these reserves were possible. About 850 million cubic feet of gas have been extracted up to 30th June, 1967; no commercially producible reserves remain.
