§ 75. Mr. Martenasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will make a statement on the reports received by Her Majesty's Government about the use of poison gas by Egyptian forces against the civil population in the Kingdom of Yemen.
§ Mr. George ThomsonAs my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister stated on 11W 31st January, such evidence as we have strongly suggests that poison gas was used. I cannot be more definite than that.
§ 102. Mr. Eldon Griffithsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will offer medical assistance to the victims of recent gas bomb attacks in the Yemen.
§ Mr. George ThomsonNo official or private requests for medical assistance have been received by Her Majesty's Government. I understand that survivors of these attacks have been looked after in Saudi Arabian hospitals. The International Red Cross are also active in the Yemen and care for the victims of the conflict there. If it became clear that further help were required I would certainly be prepared to consider giving it.
§ 103. Mr. Eldon Griffithsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what information he has received from official British sources on the type of gas used in the recent Egyptian bomb attacks in the Yemen.
§ Mr. George ThomsonNone that the British authorities are themselves in a position to verify.
§ Mr. Longdenasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will instruct the United Kingdom permanent representative at the United Nations to raise in the Security Council as a threat to peace the continuing aggression being committed by Egypt against the people of the Yemen.
§ Mr. George ThomsonNo. Our policy towards the Yemen conflict remains one of non-involvement.
