§ Mr. Miscampbellasked the President of the Board of Trade what is the estimated number of additional hotel bedrooms required to meet tourist demands by 1970; and what steps the Government are taking to help meet this demand.
§ Mr. J. P. W. MallalieuThe British Travel Association has estimated that 30,000 additional hotel beds will be needed by 1970. Any such estimate needs, however, to be based on assessments of such uncertain factors as the rate of growth of tourist traffic, the numbers of overseas visitors and of Britons who go abroad for their holiday, and the changing pattern of demand for different types of accommodation.
For an outline of the Board of Trade's selective development loan scheme for hotels I would refer the hon. Member to my right hon. Friend's description of it in the debate on economic affairs on 26th July, 1966 [Vol. 732, c. 1570–80.] and his subsequent Answer of 6th December to my hon. Friend the Member for Blyth (Mr. Milne).—[Vol. 737, c. 275.]
