Bromley-Davenportasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will refuse any further credit 18W to the Egyptian financial delegation at present in this country except on condition that the Egyptian Government will cease its continuous attacks on this country on Cairo Radio and pursuing their current policy in the Yemen.
§ Mr. George ThomsonNo. The Egyptian financial delegation to which the hon. and gallant Member refers left this country on 10th February. As I told the hon. Gentleman the Member for Haltemprice (Mr. Wall) on 23rd February, Export Credits Guarantee Department and this Egyptian delegation concluded an agreement on 10th February about the payment over a period of United Arab Republic commercial debts to this country insured with Export Credits Guarantee Department. The agreement is in our commercial interest. It provides for current payments to be met as they fall due and is expected to enable Export Credits Guarantee Department to continue to under-write an appropriate amount of new export business. —[Vol. 741, c.328.]
