§ Mr. Alfred Morrisasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what new conditions he will lay down for the sale of council houses by local authorities; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. GreenwoodI have nothing to add at his stage to my reply to the hon. Member for Poole (Mr. Murton) and the hon. Member for Hemel Hempstead (Mr. Allason) on 7th February.—[Vol. 740, c. 1336.]
§ Mr. Christopher Priceasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will send a circular to dissuade local housing authorities from aggravating the 345W housing shortage by selling off their stock of council dwellings.
§ Mr. GreenwoodI intend shortly to issue a circular advising local authorities on this subject. Meanwhile I repeat that in general local authorities ought not to sell their houses where there is still an unsatisfied demand for houses to let at moderate rents and where they intend to continue a substantial programme of building houses to let. There will, of course, continue to be exceptions to this general rule where the sale of particular properties is warranted in the normal course of housing management.
