asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many police authorities in Scotland are short of establishment by 10 per cent. or over.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many policemen were recruited in Scotland in 1966; how many resigned or retired; and by what number Scottish police forces are under strength at the latest available date.

674 men and 106 women were recruited in 1966; 836 men and 93 women resigned or retired. At 31st December, 1966, Scottish Police Forces were 917 men and 47 women under strength.

Mr. Russell Johnston

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether the present combined authorised establishment figure of 186 for the Inverness County of Inverness Burgh police forces will be reviewed prior to amalgamation.

This will be a matter for the joint police committee when it is set up.
