HC Deb 15 February 1967 vol 741 cc113-4W
Mr. Wingfield Digby

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many locally entered established and unestablished men, respectively, will be dismissed in Malta in the next year; and what will be the basis of their compensation.

Mr. Reynolds

I cannot yet give detailed figures. Established staff would receive a lump sum and pension under the Superannuation Act, 1965; unestablished staff would receive gratuities based on pay and length of service.

Mr. Wingfield Digby

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many Service personnel will be withdrawn from Malta in the next four years; what proportion can be housed in accommodation already available in the United Kingdom; and what will be the cost of building new accommodation, including married quarters.

Mr. Reynolds

On current plans we envisage the withdrawal of about 3,000. On the second and third parts of the Question I would refer the hon. Gentleman to the Answers by my right hon. Friend (Mr. Healey) to the hon. Member for Surbiton (Mr. Fisher) on 3rd February. —[Vol. 740, c.189–90.]
