§ 57. Mr. Edwin Wainwrightasked the Minister of Health if he is aware of the shortage of doctors in Yorkshire and Humberside region; and what measures he has taken, and intends to take, to bring the numbers up to the required standard.
§ Mr. SnowWe are aware that more family doctors are badly needed in some parts of the region. The number of places in medical schools is being increased and we hope that this, together with the new contract for general practitioners, will increasingly attract more doctors into general practice, here and elsewhere. The new scheme of remuneration provides special allowances for doctors in areas where there is a severe and prolonged shortage.
