HC Deb 02 February 1967 vol 740 c160W
Mr. MacArthur

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps he will take to reduce overcrowding in Scottish prisons.

Mr. Ross

Prison building in Scotland is at present running at about £850,000 a year and work in hand will add about 10 per cent. to available places by the end of next year. Negotiations are in progress for the acquisition of sites for three new establishments to provide about 900 places.
