asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will take steps to issue instructions to all officers of Inland Revenue that compensation paid to farmers for slaughtered beasts under foot-and-mouth regulations will be free of Corporation Tax, Capital Gains Duty, Income Tax and Surtax.

Mr. Diamond:

As regards cases in which Section 23, Finance Act, 1953, is applicable, I would refer to my Answers to the hon. Member for Banff (Mr. Baker) on 21st November and the hon. Member for Honiton (Mr. Emery) on 30th November.
