HC Deb 21 December 1967 vol 756 cc508-9W
Mr. Ridsdale

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the increase in the number of local government employees since October, 1964; and how much this increase cost on average since October, 1964.

Mr. Fernyhough:

I have been asked to reply. Numbers employed by local authorities and in Police Forces are available only for June each year. Between June, 1964, and June, 1967, the number increased by 253,000. The answer to the second part of the Question is that the information is not available.
