Mr. James Davidson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if it is his policy that, after the raising of the school-leaving age in 1970, a 16 year old pupil in Scotland who is married will be kept compulsorily at school until the first statutory leaving date after the sixteenth birthday.

Mr. Ross:

The Education (Scotland) Act, 1962, already empowers education authorities to decide what circumstances other than those specified in the Act afford a reasonable excuse for non-attendance at school.
