HC Deb 14 December 1967 vol 756 cc236-8W
Mr. Tudor Watkins

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has received for a by-pass road of the town, Brecon; whether he is satisfied that the traffic on the A40 road has so increased in recent years as to warrant a scheme to be planned earlier than 1970; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Cledwyn Hughes:

Representations have been received from my hon. Friend on behalf of the residents of Llanfaes.

The volume of traffic in Brecon, like that in many other towns in Wales, has increased considerably in recent years. I have included a by-pass south of Brecon with a spur to the east of the town in the programme for the years after 1970, described in Chapter IV of the White Paper "Wales: The Way Ahead".

It will not be possible to build these roads before 1970 but they will be brought into the programme as soon as resources allow.
