HC Deb 12 December 1967 vol 756 c75W
Mr. Mackenzie

asked the Minister of Power what consultations he had with the British Steel Corporation, and when, before the decision to close the Phoenix Works, Rutherglen, of Stewarts and Lloyds; and what assurances he obtained as to the number of employees who would be offered alternative employment by the Corporation, and as to where the work at present being done there would be done in future.

Mr. Freeson

I was informed several weeks ago that closure of the Phoenix Works was under consideration by the British Steel Corporation. I have the Corporation's assurance that everything possible will be done to provide alternative employment.
