asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the total deficit of the nationalised industries since 1946; and what is the present cumulative deficit.

Mr. Diamond:

The total of revenue deficit less surplus of all the nationalised industries in the years 1946–66, after meeting interest charges, was£819 million. The total of cumulative revenue deficits outstanding in the balance sheets of the industries at the end of their last financial year was£6.8 million.
