§ Mr. Peter Walkerasked the Minister of Transport how many qualified highway engineers have been recruited to the road construction units; how many of these were previously employed by her Department; and how many were previously employed by local authorities.
§ Mr. CarmichaelThe Road Construction Units are being manned as a partnership between the Department and certain County Councils. The general aim is that the Department should provide 20 per cent. of the total engineering staff, and the local authorities the rest. One hundred and thirty-eight engineers have taken up duty in the three R.C.U.s set up so far. Fourteen are from the Department, and 124 from the counties.
