§ 7. Mr. William Hamiltonasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT a table showing the current rents payable in new towns for each type of house; and if he will state his policy on rents over the next five years in these towns.
§ Mr. MellishLast year the average rents charged for a three-bedroom, two-storey house in the English new towns ranged from 37s. 8d. a week to 54s. 3d.
Corporations are normally required to produce a total rent income sufficient (with subsidies and grants) to cover all relevant outgoings. Rents are pooled and my right hon. Friend has told Development Corporations that he wants them all to operate rent rebate schemes.
