HC Deb 14 April 1967 vol 744 c248W
Mr. James Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence when his Department began its investigations with reference to the commutation of service pensions, other ranks; whether he has now completed them; and what is his decision.

Mr. Healey

At the end of 1964. This has been a problem of great complexity, requiring reference to changes in the actuarial position and to developing pensions procedures in other fields. In the course of the investigation we have considered and discarded a number of possible schemes; we are now examining one which may hold out more hope of proving to be acceptable, but I cannot say when I shall be in a position to announce a decision on it.
